- 红葡萄叶 (Red Vine Leaf): 红葡萄叶的提取物也被尝试用于治疗慢性静脉机能不全。一项为期12周共涉及219名慢性静脉机能不全病人的双盲研究发现,每日口服 360mg 红葡萄叶提取物对于减轻水肿、缓解疼痛及其它症状显著优于作为对照用的安慰剂组。它的副作用主要限于轻度的胃肠不适及偶尔的头疼。血液检测及体格检查均未显示有任何不良反应。尽管如此,大规模的安全性研究尚未做过,而且目前医学专家并不推荐红葡萄叶用于怀孕或哺乳期女性,或是有严重肝肾疾病的患者。
- 屠夫的扫帚 (Butcher's broom): 也称假叶树 (Ruscus aculeatus),它被如此命名是因为它的树枝是屠夫所用扫帚的传统制作材料。这种地中海的常青灌木对于治疗泌尿疾病有着悠久的历史。最近大家对它在治疗痔疮及静脉曲张的效果比较感兴趣。在一项为期12周共涉及166名慢性静脉机能不全女性病人的双盲试验中,患者被给予安慰剂或是假叶树治疗,以评估使用标准剂量的假叶树提取物对于疾病的疗效。结果显示假叶树组病人的肢体肿胀比作为对照用的安慰剂组明显减轻。另外一项为期12周共涉及148名患者的的双盲试验也得出了类似的结论。
